I imagine myself as the main character, or whoever the narrator is. Just from the point of view that the author presents.

I often do, and it's interesting which ones I identify with each time. Is it the main character, or the most likeable one, or the one that's most like me, or the one I wish i was more like?
That can be one of the signs of a good book that a writer will try to create. By making the character into one that many can identify with, the writer involves the reader, pulling them into the story.
I don't read those books.
As a Christian, there are sooooo many good edifying books out there, why read a novel?
