Serious question about lockjaw?!

Question: oh lord I know what I am in for with this question, but seriously...what would cause your jaw to feel like it is going to lock up...just out of the blue? This has happened a couple times this week?
Should I go ask all the smart people in health...or do any of you Yahoos know wtf is happening?!

I have to go with Hawk on this...aw well as the others. Definitely TMJ

Overload of things to say....my brain hurts now.

There are many things, just try not to open your mouth so wide.....

It's probably lockjaw - look it up on WebMD.

TMJ
tetanus

I'm with our handsome man on this honey. TMJ or tetanus can do it. Have you had any dental work done?

have you been to the dentist lately? they can see if your jaw is out of line and that would cause it to lock especially when you open your mout not so much when you close it. I would go get it check it wont heal on its own

i heard cocaine would do that to your jaw.

I know what your saying! I get it too! Not sure what causes it, but avoid chewing gum or chewy foods and holding the phone with your face and shoulder. Best advice I can give you!

Well, I'm not sure what you were doing when this happened... but does your jaw also ever "pop"? If you chew a lot of gum or whatever, that can displace your jaw a bit. If it gets out of the groove, it can lock up. Ouch! I've heard that orthodontists may be able to assist with this, or maybe start with your dentist. Happy healing!

Are you grinding at night? That can cause TMJ, which can cause your jaw to lock, or snap into place and out of place.

TMJ = Temporo-Mandibular Joint disorder.

TMJ honey... I've had to deal with it. Have a dentist check it out. If you grind your teeth or tense up on your jaw a lot, it could cause it. It can be very painful

TMJ sucks but get in to see the dentist and the dr. Wish you luck beautiful.

You need to get some lube on that thing... LOL....

If you got lockjaw you need to tell me now so i can save the gas and not come over tonight ;)
