Sometimes I set a clock if I am on an early shift, but usually I just wake up out of habit at a certain time. I don't like a lot of light when I am first getting awake, maybe you can get him a light that has a low setting and put it far away from you, then your days may have better beginnings.

I usually wake up about 10-15 minutes before my alarm. then I jump right into the shower to get started

either my hubby putting on his boots while sitting on the bed, or my cell phones alarm going off
Either a phone call, alarm clock, or naturally.
my alarm goes off and i never turn it off until it's about 30 min after it started beeping.
I wake up to either the alarm in my body or the alarm on my cell phone.
I wake up in the morning 1st I listen a mild music because I love gazals
