i know! like we dont know ****!

Yeah...that's why I take it to a friend of my brothers who is a mechanic

not that...they dont want oil spills all over your shirt

No. I'm a hard@$$, lol.

Yes I hear of this happening all the time.

I would say it happens. But it happens to guys too, cuz i don't know sh*t about cars...

yes. luckily my fiance can do lot's of repair's himself

yes.

yeah, that has happened to me. But i always just tell them ill get my dad or someone to look at it first.

Yes thats why I go to a friend so I dont get ripped off

sometimes and my ex alwatys insisted on going with me
now i work in the car industry (office admin) and i am pleased to say that our workshop takes great care of both men n women but pay particular attention to helping the people (men or women) understand exacly what is going on!

Yes, they always tell me I need this or that but I always go to my boyfriend for a second opinion, and I almost never needed that "x-tra" thing the mechanic wanted me to get

Sometimes, however before hand I would also get my friends brother to take my car into the garage. But luckily where I now take my car I know the guy that works there so he does do that sort of thing

Not all mechanics are like that, there are quite a few very honest mechanics. But, then again there are a lot of crooks too. Not only do they try to scam women, some of them even try to scam men. That is why I will only take my vehicle to a repairman who I was referred to by close friends or family, and whom I know is honest.

It's helpful to be very knowledgeable about your vehicle and know how to do most repairs and tune-ups yourself, man or woman this way when you know what is wrong with your vehicle you will know when the mechanic is trying to scam you.

i think that all garages are shady my whole family we have personal mechanics thats the way to go

They did it to everyone even the guys when they found out that we know little about car.

Yeah. My dad used to always go with me, or my mom, because her and my dad used to own a body shop, so she too knows some about cars.

Now, though, when I need something besides an oil change, I go to my Paran (that's Cajun French for Godfather).

learn from mistakes
eventually u gain knowledge
have to pay nowadays everywhere everytime

It happens. I usually ask around first and when I take it to get fixed I already know what needs to be done. I also follow my instincts. Hasn't failed me yet!

women make the safest drivers you can save a bunch of fivers
for bonzer car insurance deaaaals, girls get down to sheelas wheeeeeels

Yes definitely, I went to a garage only a month ago I had to get the oil changed on my car and while in there they said the gear box needed changing, and the cv joints, and the cv boots, and the radiator needed fixing. Well none of these things needed doing not to the extent they ment anyway as the cv boots had just been fixed, the radiator does have a leak in it but that can be fixed by pouring some solution into it which helps seal up the holes, and the cv joints weren't even damaged, all they needed was more oil!
When I got home and told my husband about it all he was outraged, he knows quite a bit about cars, and said that was very wrong and they shouldn't try to mislead people like that. They gave me a price for all the work that supposedly needed doing and it came to just over £2,000 that was including labour fees. Which I think is a stupid amount of money, as I drive an automatic car, I did try driving a manual but couldn't get used to it, so just because of the automatic gearbox Iget penalised for it.
The strange thing was the garage I took it to wasn't a small independant one, it was a large well known garage, you would of thought they had enough money as it is!
Be careful girls, and if your not happy with the outcome of what one garage may have told you, take it to another, but don't say anything, just wait to see what they say is wrong with it!

There are some that do - you need to find a reputable garage or let a male friend take in your car.

Yes, that's why I always make sure I take my husband with me although he is more clueless than me!

find a trustworthy mechanic by recomendation

yes so i always try to take some one with me

Yes hun! I had a problem with my battery thing last winter, Took it to garage and they told me I need a new Altinator charge me £400!! I find out later they didnt need to do all that and that £400 was way to much to pay! I now found a new garage now and they seem ok....!

I'm an old-girl car owner, still reasonably tall at 5' 7" so not to be intimidated easily.
As I fix people with a steely glare I point out ("young man" or "sunshine") that I am post-menopausal; low in oestrogen and high in attitude!
That usually establishes my position in the hierarchy!
If there is still some doubt, and should I even think that they are going attempt to rip me off, I mention that they won't like me when I get angry because I go bright green and burst out of my shirt! My husband calls me "the incredible sulk!"

i think they try to, i dont drive but i know what you are talking about!
