What I am planning to get my Mum for Christmas this year. I am saving up for it. I also make hand made cards and my Mum shall be getting one of them. I am going to put a special Mum on it.

Hi Peachy (although "just" so . . . ):
OK, I'll reveal my secret . . . I've worked this one out all by myself:
"Clams are strange molluscs, which have the infuriating habit of clamming-up under the slightest provocation. Most of them go through their lives simply existing, precisely because of this!
A small scattering of them - the more daring ones - open up to allow the outside world into their inner recesses. And, lo and behold, in opening up - sometimes ever so slightly - something wonderful is created!
A tiny grain of sand - at first even bothersome and irritating - slowly, inexorably, over a period of time starts transforming into a thing of beauty. Once the small grain of sand has become an integral part of the clam’s existence, it undergoes an almost magical transformation and almost unperceived a totally new entity is born from this union, which at first seemed almost alien and unacceptable to the clam.
If you should watch carefully, you probably would not notice the subtle changes that take place as time slips by. Yet, if you should employ patience and only peep into the inner sanctity of our friend the clam from time-to-time, you would be astounded to perceive the growth of a rare and fine jewel indeed.
Thus is born - miraculously - the humble, yet exquisite pearl: unpretentiously hidden in the depths of the clam, and yet with such lustre and perfection in its making, that it is highly sought after as a jewel even for the crowns of princesses and queens throughout the ages. It has adorned the slim necklines of such beauties as the famous Helen of Troy, Cleopatra, Princess Diana, countless film stars and beauty queens, and has added to their beauty in more ways than can be imagined.
Pearls are soft to the touch, subtly pleasing to the eye, yet enduring and everlasting, provided they are cared for and nurtured properly.
The above is not necessarily a lesson in biology. I have found in life, that nature has a lesson to teach in her own way. Perhaps we should be more perceptive of the seemingly simple lessons that she teaches us . . . and read between the lines of what she ever so gently allows us to glimpse!"
