Why does a great idea only worth 2 cents?!

Question: everytime someone suggest an excellent idea he/she goes "here is my 2-cent" .. when the idea was clearly a million dollar idea

why can't they say "here is my 2-million" instead? why is it always 2 cents.. low self esteem?

Put my two cents in

Meaning: To state one's opinion.
Example: If I can put my two cents in, maintenance on that Ferrari will kill you.
Origin: "Put my two cents in" originates from the older "put my two bits in" and has its origin in the game of poker. When playing poker you have to make a small bet before the cards are dealt called an "ante" to begin play in that hand.
This phrase draws an analogy to the poker ante (two bits) and gains your entry into the conversation.

Two bits means one quarter (currently the American twenty five cent piece). This comes from the older term "piece of eight".

Today we have coins minted in different denominations - nickel, dime, and quarter in the U.S. - but this was not always so. Gold and silver coins once served as currency, with the value of the coin equal to the value of the gold or silver contained in the coin. To obtain currency valued at less than a full gold coin, coins would be scored and split into pieces. This is how one would make change so to speak.

Coins could be split into halfs, quarters, and eighths. One eighth of a coin was called a "piece of eight" and also called a "bit". Two pieces of eight is equal to one quarter. Hence "two bits" is a quarter.

It's their opinion; not an idea that's worth 2 cents.
That's where the saying comes from.

Because ideas ain't worth jack if they don't come to fruition buddy. Ideas are thoughts and words. Actions are what count.

And why are your thoughts only worth 1 penny???

that saying originated from a comment being made by someone to another person who didnt ask for it in the first place. Stating they didn't want their advice and it's not worth two cents. So when you state that you don't want someones two cents or someone says here is my two cents worth...it doesn't mean a great idea.

because people dont value anyones opinion but their own..

Maybe to be humble? But kinda sounds like it could have some historic background.

because that saying is SOOOOO old, that back in the day, that was a LOT of money ya know!

the economy has a lot 2 do with every ones 2 cents. that's why they say here is my 2 cents.

people are cheap

Look if u start with 2 million dollar, u can easily stand a businness and can earn money.

But all great people in the had started their life with very few money and then they used their hard work to convert this little money into a very large amount and they all were successful.
So if u work hard with this 2 cents and if u have honest mind one day u will become a very rich man

if it is worth 2 cents, then why do people ask "a penny for your thoughts"?
