Would you care if you made a good grade simpley because the professor liked you?!

Question: I study very hard and as a result I tend to make very good grades. I would consider myself a good student. Quiet for the most part but always answering/asking questions. Well, about two weeks ago I had a test in my American government class. I studied hard and I ended up making a 100. I was the only 100 in the class which included very few passing grades. I felt really good at first but my professor keeps joking that he determines our grades by how much he "likes" us. Now I am worried I only did well because I am a good student in the class. How would you feel if you were in my situation? Would you just be happy to have gotten the 100 or feel bad that you might not have really earned it? Just looking for some other opinions. Thank you. :)

I'm in law school and I got an A+ in one of my classes last semester (which is pretty rare at my school), from a professor who is known to be (and has told me he is) a sadistic hard as*. Our school uses blind grading, meaning that we put a number on our tests instead of our name. Also, our entire grade is determined by the final exam.

I worked my butt off for that grade: I read everything he assigned, I read a bunch of suggested readings, and I talked with him a lot outside of class. My goal was to figure out how he thinks so that I could better prepare for and perform on the exam. It worked.

Despite the fact that my name wasn't on my test, did he know it was mine? Probably. Does that mean I didn't earn the grade? Hell no. I know I nailed it, and I know he would have flunked me if I had tanked it.

I was talking with a classmate who is currently taking a class with the same professor. She told me that he was "being mean" to people and "picking on them" when they didn't do the readings for class. I told her that I never had a problem with him and she said, "Yeah, well, you're a good student, you pay attention and do the assignments." My point here is this: if you're doing the work and getting good grades, you have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about. Usually (although this is not always the case), teachers like certain students because they are good students, and they reward them accordingly. Isn't that the point of grades in the first place?

Don't let slackers give you crap or make you feel guilty for doing well.

yes

play the game, even if you don't really like the game

As long as He passes me throught the grade, "job well done"

No I sure would not mind it a bit!

cat

that would depend upon my goals in life / career path

I wouldn't care at all, I would be really happy! :-)

this is how the real world operates my dear. college isnt the real world but it is a preamble to what life is all about. and you, my dear, have learned a very important lesson in life. perhaps the most important lesson you will learn in college. that pretty people get very far in life. embrace it.

Did it occur to you that maybe your professor 'likes' you just because you are a good student? It does happen, you know. It makes them feel that their life hasn't been wasted trying to impart knowledge to those who don't care, or aren't capable of assimilating it...bit sad that you should automatically assume it was anything else, really......

Well, in that case, not sure what your problem is, then. Can't you just feel good about doing well?

Tell you what, I'd take a passing grade in my 5 credit anatomy class any frickin' way I could get it!

I would feel bad now but when I was younger I didn't. I passed a class one year simply because the teacher liked it (a lot) when I wore low cut blouses to school. And of course, I would wear them whenever I could because I didn't want to have to work to earn my way. Now I wouldn't dream of doing anything like that.

Hell no!!!
