Do you subscribe to the 5 second rule?!

Question: Or some folks call it the 3 second rule. ;-)

Answers: Or some folks call it the 3 second rule. ;-)

It depends on what's been dropped and how and where it's landed.

I ask myself sometimes if everything is too sterilised, don't we need bacteria to build up our immunity?

If you pick a strawberry from the garden would you rush indoors to wash it off ... or just pop it in your mouth?

sometimes. depending.how clean the floor or ground is.

No, when it falls on the floor its trash,
Just throw it away!

People just made up that rule so they'll feel better about eating off the floor and wont be considered gross.

Come on Susan, you know I can last more than 5 seconds. Well, at least tell everyone that I can, ok?

I read they upped it to the 10 second rule depending on the consistency and moisture of the food stuff involved. I DO subscribe to it.

According to my wife I do, but honestly, that's an understatement of the truth.

No I do not. I am not that desperate for food that I have to eat something that fell on the ground.

Mines the 20 min rule

Yepper! I heard somewhere recently that's it's actually more like a 30 second rule, but that just seems too long for me!

It really depends on where the food falls. If it's in my own home, then it's okay, sometimes I just blow it off, wash it with water and then eat it. But if it falls in someone else's house, or outside on the pavement, I definitely do NOT eat it.

yes...

I have even stretched it to 8-10 seconds!

It depends where I am. At home I do because I know whats on my floors. There are some sketchy homes that I wouldn't do it, or outdoors is a definate no no.

I have nine year old triplet girls, a ten year old step daughter who lives with us a week then a week with her mom, a 6 year old boy, 5 year old boy and a newborn. You bet your dirty floor I do. but mine is the 15 second rule, a little dirt never hurt anyone. Now if we are out in public and I don't know what kind of germs we may come in contact with i bring along some handy anti bacterial wipes, but paccie drops from mouth i either plop it right back in or wipe it with moist wipe then pop it back in. I tried that boiling for two minute ritual when the girls (trips) were infants and about went nuts. as each new child comes along as parents we have to learn to adapt and what battles to fights. If not NOTHING would ever get acomplished

i swear by the 5 second rule.

I'm sure I'm mistaken, but I thought it was known as "The 12 Second Rule".

I do follow some pointers though honey. Furthermore, the five-second rule is a popular urban legend, and common rule among many people today, regarding the eating of food that has been dropped on the ground. The origins of the tale are unknown. It claims that if food falls on the ground, it may be safely eaten as long as it is picked up within 5 seconds.

There are many local variations on the rule. In many areas the time limit is modified so that it is known variously as the three-second rule, seven-second rule, eight-second rule, or ten-second rule. In some variations, the person picking up the food arbitrarily extends the time limit based on the actual amount of time required to retrieve the food.

Cheers and have a nice week ahead :)

More like did I really want it --- if yes, the minute rule (like minute rice) is in effect.

Anyone who has had kids or spend any time around them at all should know that they ignore the rule from the getgo and if it looks ok, then it must be ok.
The 5 second rule can be extended depending on where you are and whether you are alone or at least able to manage to get to it covertly.
Do I subscribe to it? I sure do.

No. If it falls in poo, it's immediately contaminated. The same goes for the invisible stuff...

Would you eat pudding that splattered on the floor if you could lick it up within two seconds? I thought not....

No. My dogs can get there in 2 seconds.

no>>never have

no, i just eat it, if it's on the floor for 20 secons, just run it under the sink!! haha, only if it's my floor tho, someone elses would be trash tho!!!
