Who thinks this is getting too much hype?!

Question: I was just on the infectious disease part of the health section and everybody is asking about staph infections/MRSA/superbugs. Is anyone else getting tired of hearing about it? These things have been around for years and while it is a reason to be concerned, I (personally) don't feel like people need to get so anxious about it. What does everyone else think?

I am a nurse who has been dealing with MRSA in the hospital for years and years, let me just tell you that there have been countless times when a patient has been diagnosed with MRSA days after we have been taking care of them, not taking any extra precautions, like we do after the diagnosis. It is nothing new, and I would be shocked to find out that healthcare workers do not carry the infection themselves.

Yes, I am very sick of the hype and scare, it has been here, it's not going anywhere people need to deal with it and get over the scare.

it is deadly. one kid a town over from me died from it

I THINK BRITNEY SPEARS GETS TOO MUCH HYPE

I think that I definitely agree with you.

Staph infections can be deadly, so no I do not think it is getting too much hype.

It is good to be informed of these diseases, but to scare the he-- out of people, that is not good. Yes, they over educate on certain things for sure.

yes it's hyped-up, but awareness of the "bug's" destruction shouldn't be taken lightly. Check the CDC website and see for yourself.

yeah i'm tired of hearing it over and over. every news reported had to mention it.

I think it's really important for people to know and how to avoid getting it. The more awareness the better. I myself don't really care, but it might actually become a huge, widespread disease...You never know. But, for now, I don't really care...

:)

yes its getting way out of hand

It is probably just the latest media food. It looks like more only because it is reported on more at the moment.

It's been on the news that there have been some flareups, until it settles down I don't think it's too much hype. Keeps people on their toes and more aware.

I agree with you. I wasn't aware that this was such a hot topic, but these have been around for many years and there's nothing to get excited about.
I had a staph infection back in the 80s and it went away when the doctors treated it. I think most people are just concerned because they don't want to pay the money to go to the Dr. but that is exactly what they have to do with these infections. The doctors can handle it.

I haven't really heard anything about it. I did have a friend years ago who checked into the hospital and ended up getting a staph infection. She died from complications from her surgery. It's not something that should be taken lightly. So, no I don't think there's to much hype over this.
