Is my roommate right?!

Question: He says using a check to withdraw money from the bank is better than using a atm or debit card, because you lose money quickly by using a debit or atm card. I don't know if I agree with him or not.

Not in my opinion. Actually if you have national city you can get money back for using your ATM card as a credit. I just got a $40 card and a $25 gas card from points that I have gotten from using my card. However you may be a little more careless and probably will use it faster by just using your card because it is already available to you and you don't have to rush to get to the bank before it closes just to have cash on you. It really all depends on the person. You won't lose it any faster unless you are not responsible enough to handle having an ATM card or your bank charges you for useing your own ATM.( If you have a bank like that find a new one!) National city is a great bank and you don't have any ATM charges and you can get points and get cash! Also there are so many of them around that you don't really ever have to worry about finding your bank! So No I don't agree with him myself but for some it is true!

I think he is right in the context that it is way too easy to just pop your card in an ATM, whereas if you have to write a check, you double-think the withdrawal. Report It

    Yes he's right.

If you use an ATM machine outside of your banks network you will have to pay an ATM fee so yes he is right!

Depends if the debit/atm card charges fees.

Mine dont, so i use them all the time.

So check with your bank to settle the dispute.

I think the ATM is more convenient because you have to write a lot for checks first. You lose money when you use an ATM depending on the machine, for example, the card works for another bank, then there is a fee.

or is that just an expression because you could withdraw money more quickly with a card so as to SPEND it quickly?

If he is using a check to withdraw money from his bank the funds are immediately taken from his account.

it depends on whether your bank charges you for using ATM machines, or if you use the ones that charge you for using it.

I suppose he feels he has more control using cheques than a card . He has a more definite record of his withdrawals

    yes,true

Hmmm....write a check....fill it out...sign it....re-fill it out because you messed up.....sign again....have the place do their stupid little "run it through a machine" thing. Then get what you are paying for or the money you need.

Use a debit card....swipe.....enter pin......get stuff or money.

    Which seems easier to you?

    Just agree,
Their on the money,so 2 speak.

Yes. widrawal slips also work as good as checks as oppose to using atm/debit cards. ATMs charge you unless the ATM is from your bank branch. I'd use checks and withdrawal slips. And a step further is to not check your account balance at an ATM outside of your bank; Only check your balance with a bank teller or through online banking because its free...

I'd say your roomate is right and is a good friend!

Plastic is just that,it doesn't equate to being cash. He's right.

Well you can keep a better track of your money, and as a rule there are NO fees for writing a check, so I have to agree with him.
