I am reading a wonderfully funny and at the same time sad set of books by Spike Milligan. He was a gunner in WWII for Britain. His memoirs of army life are histerical, but he can put the human face to the horror of war as well.

I am on book 6, Goodbye Soldier. My brother-in-law introduced me to the books about a decade ago (he is from Wales, went to Oxford, I think, and eventually moved to the US and became a citizen), and gave me 3 of them. I read them and really enjoyed them, but you can't get them easily here in the states. I ordered the whole set online from a store in Britain that had free shipping world wide. I have the whole set now, and really enjoy them.

He has an interesting writing style. He was famous for the Goon Show in Britain, a result of him running into Harry Secombe and Peter Sellers (yes, of Pink Panther fame) at the end of, and after the war. It was a comdey show that I think must have inspired the madness of Monty Python in some ways.
"Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe (but I am not finished w/ it yet)
i read "The Fall of the House of Usher" in school and just finished reading"Who Was Lani Garver". i am now reading"The Body of christopher creed". a few months ago, i read "The Ring of McAlisster" and in 6th grade i read "Midnight Magic".
The last book I read was The Long Road Home by Danielle Steel. Right now I'm reading The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. They are both good books, but the Danielle Steel book is much better than the one I'm reading right now.
