Well your right there are a lot of worse things to say but by telling someone they are stupid is right up there with some of the worse things you can say to someone. Apologize dude.

Well, of course there are worse things to call someone. But that doesn't make calling them stupid okay. There are worse things than punching someone in the nose, like shooting them; but I can still go to jail for punching them, because it's wrong. Get the picture? Apologize.

Haha, yeah man. It really all depends on how somebody receives the comment; if they know they're smart, calling them stupid probably won't do much, but if somebody is really sensitive about their intelligence quotient, they'll get more self conscious about it. That's why skinny people with self confidence laugh at you if you call them fat, and Michael Moore would go home and cry in his cookie dough. Also think how Forrest Gump would get upset when he'd be called stupid - because he knew he wasn't smart :-)
