Do you support the postal strikes here in the United Kingdom?!

Question: As far as I am concerned they have the right to stand up for themselves and I'm glad they do but in this particular situation are being very short sighted and not facing facts...

The union and some of the postal workers seem to think that the royal mail still has a monopoly on the sector and that they are still in the public sector.

Someone needs to make them realise that they are now in the private sector and 2.5% is actually a damn good pay rise.

As a private company without monopoly they now have competition fighting for the revenue that used to be theirs alone.

These other companies run more efficiently and make more money than the royal mail due to having better systems and technology which means they have less of a wage overhead due to less staff being needed to provide their services.

This then means they can charge potential customers less which means that royal mail are not competitive because they have to charge more to cover their costs to pay for their antiquated processes and higher numbers of staff.

The Royal Mail workers seem to think that by striking as a protest about the pay rise not being enough and the much needed modernisation of their company that will ultimately cost 40.000 jobs is going to mean that they can continue as they are and they are so wrong. What they are doing is pushing everyone who works for the post office towards a situation where they will ALL be out of work because the company they work for will go bust.

They will then have to fight against their former colleagues to get jobs at the more efficient comapnies and there won't be enough job to go round. Also these other companies tend to pay their staff less than the royal mail and definately don't give them 2.5% pay increases. Most of the time they won't even get a pay rise in other companies.

Of course the government is bound to bail them out like they always do though and that's the thing that makes me madder than anything.

In regards to nurses than I agree they should be paid more and I'd support them striking every time to get this. They do work in the public sector because they work for the NHS and the NHS is not the private sector. They aren't the same as the Royal Mail staff because if this. People seem to forget that the Royal Mail is now a private company.

Yes I do, people have to stand up for their rights and beliefs or they will get trodden on forever.
I'll support them. Although I have to say whenever I send or recieve something from UK it takes for freaking ever.
It's a load of crap. Everyone else has to suffer. Why don't they just raise there pay, and that of us nurses, and everyone will be happy.
Yes , I do - time they got a fair pay rise and decent conditions ; I'd want that for nurses , too .
no i think it sucks...my son sent a cheque from the army for his 2 young sons and it still hasn't arrived, so they are waiting on it....it's a bloody pain in the @rse...
i just want my mail. i think sack the lot of them and get immigrants to do the job, theres enough of them, and they will do it for less.

this is not a racial comment, sorry if it offends anyone.
No I don't. All they will do is further damage to a struggling company. Modernisation might cost jobs but complete collapse will cost ALL of their jobs. The last time they had a long strike a lot of businesses found other ways to transport important documents etc. and have probably not gone back to Royal Mail.
