What's it like to be a Grandparent?!
Question: It is the most wonderful thing to add to your family in this way. When I was in employment one of the question they gave us in a form was "What do you want to be doing in 10 years time" I said on mine to become a grand parent the girls all laughed at me. But when my 1st grand child arrived 13 years ago I was over the moon. She bought such joy into our lives, bringing back memories of our own children when they were babies when we didn't seem to have enough time for them. But with Gran children you have time, and now seeing my first developed into such a lovely lady. I just hope she stays that way. I now over the years have 5 grand children all so different in every way. In fact my last gran daughter I bought up from 4 months to 6 years as her Mother was working and had her late in life. That was the most wonderful thing that could of happened for me and I would do it all over again if I had my way.

Depressing and creaky!
I'm not sure since my son is only 1 1/2. But my mom loves being a grandma. However my mother inlaw doesn't want the word "grandma" used because she thinks it makes her seem old.
better than being a parent as you dont have to look after as much as a parent lol
Fantastic. I am a great grandparent.
I'm way to young to be one and not long become a mother but I know my sons grandparents on both sides love it. They help out when they can but they are able to hand him back and not have the full time responsibility of having their own!
They both have a lot more money and time now than they did when their own kids were young so really appreciate being able to treat him!
They are worth their weight in gold, I would be lost without my parents - my sons grandparents!
because grandchildren are "medicine to the elderly" It is soo refreshingly wonderful to be in their presents....

wonderfull, as a parent i was always busy making money and although i spent as much time as i could with my children i didn't have the pleasure of seeing everday events as i do when i visit my daughter and her baby and have the opportunity to see the wonder of a child learning to use her hands, blow raspberry's and go to sleep in my arms
It is terrific to be a grandparent!
You can take all the cuteness and joy of playing with a child, especially of your own blood, and yet be able to leave when you wish. Most often, you are usually at a different stage of life than when you were a parent and don't have the same pressures of work and time constraints of life to distract you from the child.
Even more, the bonds between a grandparent and grandchild can be different, and in some ways stronger, than those with a parent. The tensions that exist between parents and their children are lessened or even absent in the grandparent-grandchild relationship. It has truly been said that grandparents and grandchildren are bound by their common "enemy", the parents.
Another thing is that grandparents are forced to think of the well-being of people who are clearly and obviously going to outlive them so one's whole perspective about the need to think about the future is changed.

i think its sad.. really sad... living the last years and the sons and daughters and grandchildren away...

Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! It is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. He brings so much joy and happiness to my life, and I can't wait from day to day to see him. I look after him at weekends and he stays at my home and it is the best time of the week. He is 22 months old and I never want him to grow up.
l wouldnt know, dont have any children, at least l dont think l have
i don't know my oldest is not old enough yet but....
i would say fill up with candy and send them home
go visit one hour before bed time and get them hyper
get loud toys and a year supply of batteries for x-mas

Same as what I am having nieces... I am just 31, but I already have 2 granddaughters (age 14 & 12). Because my niece was born 3years ahead of me.
It`s a hoot . Like seeing your own children growing up all over again. The things they say and do are wonderful and they usually think that the grandparents are about100 years old then find we are really still sweet sixteen and never been kissed(not)
According to my dad, far from making him feel old, it has made him have a 'second childhood'. Basically he suddenly regresses to being a five year old whenever the kids are about!

i have a 2year old grandson and one on the way,its funny because i feel too young to be a nana (I'm 43)my nana was a proper old nana, but i love him to bits he is my special little man,its different from been a mum because your not the one making decisions on his upbringing etc but you get all the pleasure then can hand them back at the end of the day, you still have all the worry though about there safety in this big bad world .....
I can imagine it being very proud!! I'm a bit young to be a grandparent!!
