Andy Warhol once said "Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes". Should!

Question:

Andy Warhol once said "Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes". Shouldn't it only be about 6 minutes though?

Let me explain.....with all these AWFUL reality TV shows and one hit wonders in the "music" world I think his statement can be cut down to "Everyone will be famous for about 6 or 7 minutes...if you are lucky, unless you call going on Flava Of Love and then doing a centerfold in Hustler being famous....!"

Don't you agree?

Answers: I think it should be changed to: "Some talented and amazing people will never be famous and other, less-deserving idiots will hog the spotlight until their fingers are pried away with the jaws of life." I heard Andy Warhol once eat a live Goat If everyone only had 7 minutes then that would leave room for more people to have their chance in the spotlight and I dont think we need that many more reality stars and washed up celebs on tv.

I say 15 minutes is a good number :) I want my 15 minutes. not everyone will be famous, thats a fact I don't think the actual length of time is what Warhol was getting at. He was simply making a statement about modern culture and how much more easily media makes it for an average person to be put on public display. How could he have predicted how much more salient his statement would be with the power of the web put in the hands of average citizens?

But I do get your point. People these days are getting famous for trivial reasons rather than actually contributing something of cultural substance. And that is something to lament, I agree. Blame it on the general public who can't have their attention held for more than 6 or 7 minutes unless it's a shameful spectacle.

And even then ...
