Purpose of a long pinky nail?!

Purpose of a long pinky nail?

Why would a person (particularly, a male) keep only their pinky finger nail long? Is it for nose picking, cocaine...what? I asked one person who doesn't speak much English and he said that for him, it's "his feeling" or that he "will only take one wife." Clearly, this is not the general case. So, what is?

That is what I thought but the country I am living in is 95% Muslim and far too poor for the people to afford cocaine. Plus, I haven't seen or been offered any since I've been here. The mystery continues...

From some of the better answers here and within the context of the country I live in, I have narrowed it down to the class thing, grooming, religious and sex reasons. I have no idea what the religious purpose is; please elaborate. And lord help me, but I cannot think of any purpose a long pinkie nail would have in the bedroom.

I knew a guy who had one like that.....I think he was Muslim or Hindu or something. I never asked him directly but someone who did said he claimed it was a religious thing.

I think I'd like to research this some more.....

Ok, the consensus seems to be that it's a sort of caste symbol - meaning you're part of the upper class.
