Are you one of those people who?!

Question:

Are you one of those people who?

cleans out ur cupboards and then donates all outdated food to your local food shelf? It's not nice do you honestly believe that killing the poor people is a viable solution to the hunger problem here in the U.S. Wouldn't it be easier to just throw it in the garbage? I stocked our food shelf for this week and out of over a hundred pounds of food at least half was damaged or dated. And by law we can't distribute it to needy people. Just something to think about and a big thank you to everyone who does donate.

Answers:

We don't 'donate' outdated food ... we 'buy extra food' every week (a tiny bit doesn't 'hurt' the budget) and take it to the food bank or drop it into the 'bin' at the store.
ANY food must be 'non-perishable' and also 'good food' ... I've used 'foodbanks' and got only 'weird stuff' nobody wanted. Get things like sugar, flour, baking powder ... or things like dish soap and laundry soap (if you don't have to buy them, you have more money to buy 'fresh' produce and meat) ... and don't forget 'personal hygiene' ... if you buy a new toothbrush every 3 months, buy an extra and drop that in. Same with razors, combs (but the 'largest pack,' take out the one or two you will use, and donate the rest), etc. If you stay in a hotel, 'hide' the tiny bottles provided so they'll put new in and then hide those ... and donate all of them, because some people don't have homes, and 'small' means they'll be more likely to USE IT when they can get to a 'shower' ...
And THANK YOU for 'reminding us' that it is ILLEGAL to distribute 'outdated food' to the poor ...
