I think Bottom Contributor is onto something there ... more research is needed in this area.

Also, I was reading social historian Rosamund Goring's biography of McGinty; apparently while still a teacher, she had a message board on her classroom wall where students could ask questions and others would answer them - then McGinty would rub some of them out for no apparent reason.

I think she may be the true creator of Yahoo Answers!
