Why can't women put mascara on with their mouths closed?!

Why can't women put mascara on with their mouths closed?
Answers:
I think it's for 2 reasons:
1) I tend to stretch my face so I can get a closer angle to apply my mascara.
2) Also, while stretching my face, along with the mascara wand in my hand during application, my nose is somewhat in the way, and it's just easier to breathe through my mouth.
