Your opinion on this? I put it in Relgion also but value all opinions.?!

Question:

Your opinion on this? I put it in Relgion also but value all opinions.?

A lot of people out there criticize the Harry Potter books & say they are evil & corruptive. Have you read them all? I have & found them very entertaining with lessons to be learned. Some of the values that kids could learn from these books are the importance of:

Friendship, loyalty, love and support of family, the need for education, caring about others to the extent of willing to die for them, racism is not a good thing (pure-blood wizards condemning those that were not pureblood but half blood or human) good versus evil – sometimes in life evil wins but you keep on fighting it, Satan (or the bad guy) lies and if you follow him & make a mistake he has no forgiveness in his heart & you die. God forgives. The main reason that Harry wins is Love. How can this be a bad thing?

Times change & the older ways of getting things across to the youth are not the same & don’t always work. New things should be tried. Since “God works in mysterious ways”, this could be a new approach

for a new age don’t you think? I think that people should be more open minded regarding new ideas. You may still end up not agreeing but at least you viewed all options before deciding on what is best for you. A closed mind is wasting the mind God gave you.

Oops. I spelled Religion wrong.

First 3 answers - you just proved my point about closed minds. Why shoudl anyone read the Bible then? It's a book written by men and there is a lot of violence in it.

Marlene, check out your history. Where do you think most of your Christian holidays came from? Why do they correspond to many pagan festivals?

Joshua B good answer but why just pick on these books? Have you gone to a book store or library recently & seen all the occult books out there? What about the books with sex being described in any way shape and form? Why aren't you all out there boycotting these? They do as much damage as you say Harry Potter books do. Check out the history books also. What does history teach our kids with the lies, wars, killing people to take over their wealth, etc. Why not ban the history books because they promote evil also?

Answers:

I don't know.

Some people say that it makes wizardry seem "fun," but I don't see too many kids out trying to fly brooms or learning necromancy. I think that they're over reacting to the situation...besides, there are soooooo many other "evil" programs out there, such as X-Men, Wizard of Oz, Charmed, LOTR, Chronicles of Narnia (although that was an allegory for the story of Jesus), etc...

Why target one if you're not gonna target them all? Sounds hypocritical.
