What is the difference between a major and a minor scale?!

Question: What is the difference between a major and a minor scale!?
like for instance, what is the difference between an E flat major scale to the E flat minor scale!? does anyone know where i can find all of the minor scales for trombone!? or bass cleft!. thanks!Www@Enter-QA@Com

It depends on which type of minor scale you are looking for!. You can think of a minor scale as being th emajor scale using the key signature of the scale a minor third above you're starting note!. So for E-flat you would use the key sig for G flat!.

So E-flat major:
Eb F G Ab Bb C D Eb

E-flat Natural Minor:
Eb F Gb Ab Bb Cb Db Eb

Now, there are two more minor scales which you will find one is the Harmonic minor which is the natural minor scale except that you would raise the 7th:

Eb F Gb Ab Bb Cb D Eb

Then there is the Melodic minor which changes based on whether you are going up or down the scale:

Eb Melodic Asending:
Eb F Gb Ab Bb C D Eb (notice that the 6th and 7th scale degree have been rasied)

Eb Melodic desending:
Eb Db Cb Bb Ab Gb F Eb ( that is the natural minor scale!.)

Hope that helpsWww@Enter-QA@Com

The theory behind the scales in western music transcends instruments!. The only difference between the clefts is how the notes are presented!.

The difference between the scales depends on which mode of the major scale you're referring to!.

There are seven modes in the western major scale:

The differences between the major and minor scales is which notes in the scales are natural, flats or sharps!. Generally, what leads a scale to be major or minor is what happens to the third degree of the scale!.

If it is natural (not flat), it's a major scale
If it's a minor, the third is flat

I would recommend picking up the Complete Idiots Guide to Music Theory:

I know, sounds lame, but it's actually a very well written and informative book!. It will teach you about the different scales, modes and how to use them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
