Are my chops damaged? How/when can I tell?!

Question: Are my chops damaged!? How/when can I tell!?
I recently practiced on my trumpet about 1 and a half hours a day more than I usually do for a few days in order to prepare for auditions!. I rested for about 24 hours and when I try to play my chops feel weird!. How can I tell if my lips are damaged or not!? My inner lip is smooth and feels like it should play just fine but when I play, tonguing notes is a lot harder than it should be!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, they're probably not permanently damaged, but I'm sure they're strained!. Practicing longer is always good, but if you're used to it!. Your lips are muscles just like anything else, and practicing that much more than you usually do isn't good for them!. Like anything else, its probably just over-training!.

Take it easy for a few days, don't play much, and if you do keep it low!. You lips are just shot!. It might be a good idea to invest in Carmex if you're going to play like that normally though, the antiseptic helps numb your lips so they relax properly!. Old fashioned ice works well too!.

Just remember what happens when you over-exert yourself!. If you want to practice a lot, build up to it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
