no i think that what happens is every signed band has a label and that label produces their songs (as in like helps create them) i dont think it physically means thatyou HAVE to record with them but they do get some of your profits and bascally own your group/musicWww@Enter-QA@Com

It depends on how much money the label has,
they are spending a lot less, because so many people are stealing music these days,
sales are down close to 50%, so the labels have a lot less to spend on new talent!.
Depends on how much experience the artist has, how is their stage presence,
are they willing to go out and "support" a new CD on tour!?
(some aren't, so the label has less chance of getting their money back)
Is he a soloist, or part of a group!?
Does he write his own material , do covers!?
Some labels have their own studios, some don't!.
Some labels have "links" or tie-ins, with local studios, which allows them to record for a lower cost!.

When you get signed to a record label it usually means yu record with them!. sometimes the label just promotes the music and you are allowed studio time!. If the band is not "Big" yet then they won't get the amount of studio time that say coldplay would get!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
It means that they will distribute your music in the form of cds and MP3s!. They will also promote your music, advertising, possible scheduling tour dates or appearances on TV shows!.
