I need help buying a new guitar amp.?!

Question: I need help buying a new guitar amp!.!?
Okay, I've asked this before and I really didn't get detailed answers!. I really need detailed answers please!. I'm searching for a new amp to buy because my old one got damaged!. I am an intermediate guitarist, and I need an amp just for practice purposes, until im ready for gigs!. I've done a LOT of research and based on what I've looked up and asked, people keep leaning me towards Line 6 spider 3, Vox, crate and peavey vyper!. I've read tons of reviews on that Spider amp and 96% out of pretty much 800 said it was kick a** and the other 4% (around 50 people) said it was digital, artificial garbage and not worth getting!. I seriously need some reccomendations!. My budget is no more than $400!. And I want a combo amp, with lots, well a decent amount, of effects!. I play heavy metal, metal, and grunge!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Mikethedrummer and Milan both have it right!. If you want good tone, you don't get the Line 6!. If you don't care quite as much, and are more interested in a package that offers a variety of effects and models and sounds into one package than quality of tone, then go for it!.

Look, there are two reasons that 96% of people say that Line 6 rules!.

1) It's convenient to have all those effects and models in one package, especially if

2) they can't tell the difference, or they've never heard the difference, between playing a digital modeling amp and a real tube amp!.

I can hear the difference between the two - the harmonic content, the breakup you get when you pick harder, the dynamic range, etc!. Some people can't!. If you can play both and not tell the difference, then buy the Line 6 - seriously!. I would feel bad for you, but if you can't hear the difference, then I guess all's well that ends well!.

But if you can sit down in front of a tube amp and hear that difference, and you can't live without it (or if hearing that compressed, digital tone actually starts to cause you discomfort or pain, as it does with me) then let me suggest a few other options for you!.

1) I bought an Epiphone Valve Jr!. It's a 5 watt tube amp with no effects, just a volume knob!. I hook it up to my 4x12, put a Metal Zone in front of it, and I get a tone that is warm, fierce, and chunky!. Much quieter than my 100w amp, of course, but it's just enough to gig with if I'm being mic'd!. Even using the speaker cab that you can get with it isn't bad at all!.!.!. it's got a very nice cutting tone it it, even if I somewhat prefer the beef of a larger cab!. Of course, this is wouldn't be a combo, and has no built-in effects!.!.!. but you should be able to get them both for about 250$, which would leave some scratch to get a multifx pedal and get those fx you want!.

2) Crate has a series of tube amps that just came out that are surprisingly affordable - less than 300$ for a good 2x12 all-tube combo! Again, similar story - no built in effects, but it has the dirty channel, etc, so it has a little more functionality than the Epi, and can transition very well into gigging with no problems!.

I picked up my Boss GT-3 for 100$ used!.!.!. not a bad price!. Multifx units can be a great buy, and often have at least acceptable clean sounds, so it's one way to get all those clean fx and a tuner in one package!. I prefer either using an amp or a good stompbox for my distortion, nothing digital!. Again, I can hear the difference!.

I've heard good things about Vox, but haven't heard anything about the multfix from Peavey or Crate!.

I'd emphasize that it's important that you play before you buy!. As long as you have something to compare to, that will help you buy what's best for you!.

For the money the Line 6 is awesome!. It has some fantastic tones to it and I think a very versatile amp!. I was actually going to purchase one but I had a opportunity to purchase a Line 6 Flextone 3 XL and let me tell you, it is sick!. I am a dedicated Line 6 user now and for many years to come!. The VOX modeling amps are ok but they sounded kinda muddy to me and didn't have any good thick distortions!. I've never messed with the Vyper but I do run a Peavey bass rig and it sounds great!. I have had other Peavey amps and they have all treated me well!.

If it was me, I would go with the Line 6, you will have a blast messing around with all the modeling it can do and you will be amazed at the technology that Line 6 has packed into the amp!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Go with the Line 6!.

Who cares what those 50 people said, theyre those type of people who'll find somethin to b*tch about no matter what!.

The Line 6 is a great amp for metal or grunge, the clean sounds on it are even good!. If you've done research on it you know it has effects you might want also, like reverb, echo, flange, phaser and tremelo!.

It also lets you lock in 4 different sounds, so whether you wanna change from a clean, metal, grunge or spacey sound, you're able to do it with the push of a button!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
