Question: What do you think about the RIAA's latest stragey to stop downloading!?
I was reading this article on Yahoo (http://tech!.yahoo!.com/blogs/patterson/31!.!.!. and they were talking about downloading and saying that they plan to stop your internetservice if you dont stop downloading!. What do you think about this plan!?

I think its just a threat!. From the perspective of the RIAA its a great plan!. Buuuut the more I think about it, come on, what internet provider is really gong to agree with that!? I have ATandT for example, and I dont see them canceling me as a customer for the RIAA!. Just seems like a threat!. But wha do you think about this new stragey!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I think it's just more scaremongering and a cheap way of stirring publicity for their cause!.

The plain fact is, major label music is unfair on both the artist and consumer when it comes to money, and 90% of music in the charts is just re-hashed/untalented shite generated to make quick cash!.

As for getting ISPs to cut their customers off, they would be crazy to do so!. Even if the plan is put into action, most people will flock to the nearest ISP who offers the freedom we are rightfully entitled to, and then the rest will be forced to lift said downloading bans to try and bring back some paying customers!.

What I also wonder is how they are going to draw a line!. A lot of the tracks I download for free cannot be found on CDs, like live or demo recordings!. Can they really claim I've hurt their profits then, even though there wasn't a facility in place for me to pay for them in the first place!?
Well, there's always iTunes, with their great DRM-crippled tracks!. Copywright law entitles me to duplicate anything I own for personal use, so legally I should be able to copy my downloaded tracks to a CD for my car!. Apparently not though!.

I think the RIAA are being incredibly ignorant, and should realise that downloading for free is very beneficial!.

How many times have you been to see a live band that you were introduced to by someone sending you an MP3, or copying you a CD of!? The artist makes a heck of a lot more from a ticket or t-shirt sale than they ever will from an album sale!.

Everything concerning the RIAA boils down to an immense greed, and it's a shame that a lot of people fall victim to their threats and do as they are told for the sake of avoiding a sensationalist lawsuit!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

you forget about the fact that most media is an oligopoly at this point!. the companys that own the big record labels also own internet service providers!. plus internet service providers have been ratting out their customers to the RIAA already!. Could, for instance, time warner cable in serving warner music by stopping illegal downloads loose business to independent service providers in the long term!? it is hard to say!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
