Answers:
Overdrive is typically the point where a tube amp "breaks up" and distorts the sound!. When guitarist refer to overdrive they are typically talking about a mellower, warmer sounding distortion!. Distortion is a harsher breakup in signal, and is found in many of today's amplifiers!. Distortion is typically used for metal and hard rock, overdrive for blues, country, and all types of rock!. I personally prefer the sound of overdrive over distortion, but it's a matter of personal opinion!. If you want more detail head over to Ultimate-Guitar!.com and ask in the forums, they really know what they're talking about over there!.

Since you're looking at buying a pedal, do you use a solid state amplifier or a tube!? Distortion sounds better with solid state amplifiers, whereas overdrive pedals typically sound amazing with tube amps!. In fact, most professionals use an overdrive "boost" with their tube rigs!.

Good luck, and rock on!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
