Billy even said what this song is about, its a precursor to Perfect!. 1979 is about a bunch of adolescent kids and how they just look to have a good time and they remember at as the best time of their lives!. He wrote this about making the transition out of youth and into adulthood - Corgan chose 1979 for the title because it rhymed with many of the words he wanted to use in the lyrics!.
