Question: I'm confused!?!? The Beatles- Pop band or Rock band!?

The "boy band" thing is probably because at the beginning, the focus of the Beatles' primary fans (which were mostly young girls) was which one was "cutest"!. As time went on, Lennon and McCartney (and eventually Harrison and Starr) wrote more complex songs which began to get wider notice from adults and boys/men!.
also in the beginning the group had a carefully cultivated slightly irreverent ("Cheeky" in British slang) image!.!.sort of the "tame" bad boy!. They were music parents could feel PRETTY safe about buying for their kids ("Well, I don't like the long hair!.!.but they're not TOO crazy, like those nasty Rolling Stones") As the band became more outspoken politically and it became obvious they were using drugs, their audience shifted from tweens and young teens into older teens and young adults!.
I would say they're a rock band based on their eventual output but if they had only ever done the albums up through HELP! then I think we'd all be calling them "pop"!.

The difference in the genres back then was not as wide either, I don't think (like today you have specialized markets and channels for rock vs!. rap vs!. country vs!. 'softer' vh1 style music etc)!. There were fewer channels, and it was pretty much either country or pop or it wasn't on the tv/radio!.
I think (for me) 'boy band' defines a prefabricated band that doesn't play instruments of people assembled by a record company or producer!. Such as the Monkees!. The Beatles were a band and played their instruments and wrote music, therefore I wouldn't saddle them with the 'boy band' title, myself!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well they were never a boy band!. The def of a boyband is a group who is manufactured, they were never that!. They wrote their own songs and set the trend for the 60's The only thing that was a little tweaked was their mod image!. Brian Epstein begged them to get suits so they could look more presentable!. Thank god they did or else they may have not been able to reach some people!. Ok and about if their were pop or rock!? Well they were both!. They started very popish!. A lot of love songs and rock and roll covers!. As they got sick of that and the drugs came in the music changed!. And i think it changed for the better!. The music has had more depth and certainly reflected the crazy times of the 60's!. You'd have to listen to all the record see know what i mean!. But wow it is amazing to listen to their early stuff and then listen to abbey road or the white album!. There were a totally diff band in the the end!. pop just means popular, and they were deffinately that!. and they deffinately played in the rock genre for the most part!. they are a pop rock band!. but they really werent a "boy band," on some levels the success of their marketing spawned the "boy band" movement 20 years later, but quite frankly, their success spawned a lot of movements in rock!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

When they started out they were considered rock, but as different music came about thety had to catagorize things differently!. Thus The Beatles became pop!Www@Enter-QA@Com
A bit of both methinks!. The early albums were pure pop, but later ones can perhaps be classified as pop/rock!.The White Album for instance is rock/pop whilst Sgt Peppers is pop!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
