AIC, hands down!. While I can appreciate STP, song for song, album for album, AIC is head and shoulders above STP!. Back when both bands came onto the scene, I remember STP being written off by most music critics as a band without their own image or sound!. They were a conglomerate of their influences, or at the very least, what was selling at the time!. Alice, on the other hand, was different!. Sure you could hear influences, but they made it all their own!. Even though they were labeled grunge, it only applied to their location, and not their sound!. AIC was metal, when metal wasn't cool!. It was right after the death rattle of the 80's metal scene and the birth of the commercialized "alternative" craze!. And here was Alice, doing their thing!. Anyone that listens to Facelift and don't hear metal isn't listening at all!. Alice In Chains!.!.!.all the way!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I totally have to agree with you! Alice In Chains is definitely my favorite band ever! Don't get me wrong, I like Stone Temple Pilots also but Alice In Chains is an absolutely amazing band! Layne's voice is just so indescribable to me!.!.I love it! Him and Jerry Cantrell were also great writers! RIP Layne!. Jerry's guitar playing is effin' awesome! And the two Mikes and Sean were very good musicians also!. My dad first introduced them to me when I was 13 and I've loved them ever since (I'm 15 now)!. Their songs do have a lot of depth! Without hesitation Alice in Chains, one of my favourite bands had all their albums ,man in the box, excellent, one of those bands you could hear for the first time and find a connection with immediately, Stone temple pilots on the other hand, yeah they had a few good songs, and a few crap ones too, but it's sold out **** in my opinion!.Harsh but true!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

STP was also really great, but Jerry Cantrell's guitar work is some of the most underrated in Rock and Metal, and Layne was quite possibly the best voice of the 90's!.
Add that into their diverse music styles, and the way their songwriteing just seemed to coneect with me!.!.and you have a WINNER!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I always thought that both bands were great and had to narrow things down to answer this!.!.!.
Scott Weiland had a better voice(in my opinion) but not too much better!.!.!.and most of the group(STP that is) was above average, but!.!.!.the wildcard in this is Jerry Cantrell, who was the greatest guitarist in grunge and the 90's!.!.so he was the trump card, AIC for me!. =]Www@Enter-QA@Com
