Rock is kind of broad, but when prefixed by "Classic," it makes me feel confined, because most "classic rock" stations have as set a playlist as top 40 teenybopper stations do, and ClearChannel confines me even more by ruling out anything "subversive" or anti-war!.
Most metal seems pretentious compared to its predecessors of the 60's!. Leaving off the "Heavy" is appropriate, because most of it doesn't qualify!. Loud, yes, heavy, no!.
Soul is okay in small doses as is punk!.
Jazz depends on the artists: Dave Brubeck's "Take 5/Time Out," Charles Lloyd's "Journey Within," and Milt Jackson & John Coltrane's "Bags & Trane" are progressive enough to suit me, as are a couple of others that I heard once and can no longer remember what they were!. Seems to me that the "Weather Report" of the 70's and Mahavishnu were also pretty decent, as were the Graham Bond Organisation and the M!.G!.'s!.
Blues: Wow! Makes me want to grab one of my harps and jam along!
Folk: mostly relaxed and nostalgic!.
Pop: mostly nauseous!
Psychedelic: That's my main genre, and if I were to have flashbacks, which I don't, that would be the source!.
