Answers:
Indie isn't really fair to say!. Indie can cover grounds from Alternative to World music!. So, I'll exclude that one!.

Alternative is broad in that it can differ from Radiohead to the Foo Fighters!. Alternative can be soft, or hard-ish, but never hardcore!. Hardcore music would be something entirely different!.

Classic is what it sounds like!. Classic is a genre that basically is the sounds of the hit bands from the '50s to '70s!. Think Pink Floyd or Jefferson Airplane!.

Soft rock is simple!. Rock that is not hard!. No big, over the top guitar riffs, drum solos, etc!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Alternative- Its a genre that came off of punk!. Its associated with emo or can be!. Guitar parts usually consist of lots of chords played over, and over!. It is music that emerged in the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s!. In the 1980's it was called college rock due to its links to the college radio circuit and the tastes of college students!. Alternative rock has been largely defined by its rejection of the commercialism of mainstream culture!.

Alternative Bands- The Used, AFI, The Vines

Classic- Its were Rock music started!. Consists of music from 50's to 80's!. Lots of guitar solo's!. The origins of the classic rock can be traced back to The Beatles' groundbreaking album Sgt!. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band!.

Classic Bands- Rolling Stones, Gun's and Roses, Kiss

Indie- I think of Indie as softer, alternative genre!. It primarily exists in the independent underground music scene!. It primarily refers to rock musicians that are or were unsigned, or have signed to independent record labels, rather than major record labels!. Some end up moving to major labels, often on favorable terms won by their prior independent success!.

Indie Bands- Silversun Pickups, Tokyo Police Club,People in Planes

Soft- Soft rock as a specifically to a style of rock that emerged in the early 1970s, both as a reaction against the increasingly heavy music that dominated rock at the time!. Soft rock, also referred to as light rock or easy rock, is a style of music which uses the techniques of rock and roll to compose a softer, supposedly more ear-pleasing sound for listening!. The genre tends to make heavy use of pianos, synthesizers and sometimes saxophones!. The electric guitars in soft rock are normally faint and high-pitched!.

Soft Bands- Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Billy Joel

Alternative-A lazy term used by record execs and magazines who are too lazy to make a genre or too dumb to realize they slap the term "alternative" on almost any band that formed over the last 10 years

Classic-Older rock!. Though, any band that comes out lately that may sound like a classic band will get the "alternative" label anyway

Indie-Anything without a major label, usually real alternative and acoustic music

Soft!.!.!.don't think that's a genre!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Okay, well this is my opinion on this, I could be wrong!. I think I fall under "classic" because I am getting old!. he he he!.

Alternative would be different kinds of rock and rock that don't really fit into any other type of category, kind of like the term miscellaneous!.

Classic is old rock!. Think classic coke, classic corvette!.!.

Indie rock has a certain sound to it, I think!. About the time I think I have figured out what defines Indie Rock another artist comes out and they say it's Indie Rock and it sounds nothing like the other ones, nor are they Indian!.!.!.JK

Okay, this one is easy!. Soft rock is cheesy, most of it came out late 70's early 80's people in late 40's early 50's "dig" it!. Chicago would be a band they would probably call Soft Rock!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Alternative: This is often what bands are labeled when no one knows what to call them!. In the 90s, tons of bands got signed as "alt"!. It's a broad genre, really!.

Classic: Some people go as far back as the 50s with classic rock!. I tend to lean towards the 60s and 70s with it, though!. It's the stuff my 40 yr old Dad got me hooked on!. :)

Indie: Oh, so confusing, indeed! Many have been called Indie!.!.!.!.but the true definition is yet to be reached!. For some "Indie" means to not be signed to a major label and have little management and advertising!. Radiohead's a great example of a so-called "Indie" band that made it pretty big!.

Soft: This genre of rock is what some call pop!. Whatever you call it, it's the lightest rock there is!. For examples, I'd say The Fray, Coldplay, and maybe Five For Fighting!. Some would argue that, but we'll use them for our purposes!.

Hope that kinda sorta helped!. Genres are confusing little things, aren't they!? Www@Enter-QA@Com

Alternative is out of the norm!.
Classic is basically anything up until 15 years ago!.
Indie is crappy, wimpy alternative!.
Soft is!.!.!. well, soft!.

Wow, given my thumbs, can't hit a ringer every time, eh!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

alternative is like on the level next to rock
classic is all the legendary bands and songs
indie is the bands that haven't got famous yet
soft is for all the old people!.
I had to be funny :)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Alternative- non-mainstream, unique (ironically much of it is very mainstream now)
Classic- rock that is at least 20 years old
Indie- Softer, quieter alternative
Soft- largely acoustic!. not really "rock"Www@Enter-QA@Com

Indie used to mean independent!. It's a pretty useless term these days, since all 'indie' bands are signed!.

It's our generations punk!. Because punk died when the sex pistols got signed!. hahahaWww@Enter-QA@Com
