Question: What are your honest thoughts on Jimmy Page as a guitarist!?
Nobody is denying Jimmy's skills in the studio as a producer!.!.!.he could make anything sound good and in the studio he sounded great!. How would you rate him overall as a guitarist, including in a live setting!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think that he is brilliant!. There are people that criticize his playing as being sloppy or muddled and I just don't by that!. I say that he is passionate and rooted in the blues!.!.!. I will take players like Jimmy Page and Neil Young over the clean and sterile notes of Eric Clapton or Joe Satriani any day!. Before Zeppelin, Before the Yardbirds, Jimmy was the busiest and most sought after studio musician in London!.!.!. trust me, Jimmy Page could play it however you wanted him too!. Sure his studio prowess is acknowledged but I can't think of anyone that is responsible for more classic riffs, grooves, and solos than JImmy Page!.!.!. The world is full of great players and Jimmy Page takes a back seat to no one in my opinion!. From the Rain Song to Ten Years Gone, from Stairway to Heaven to Achilles Last Stand!.!.!. from Kashmir to Since I've Been Loving You, from Dazed and Confused to The Battle of Evermore!.!.!.!.!. and so many countless others!.!.!. breathtakingly prolific!.!.!. as Jimmy would say "The Light and the Shade"!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Jimmy Page is extremely creative!. His melodies triads and chord structures are extremely advanced!. From a theory standpoint, even Zepps simple song "Kashmir" is so far ahead of it's time it makes him one of the truly unique guitarists of our time!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.however, live, he was often so sloppy in his playing, it's sometimes un listenable!. He often tried to play too fast and slurred his notes!.
Page was a genious creatively, but when you compare him to a Mark Portnoy, or Robert Fripp, even an Ed Van Halen, he just didn't take his Genius on stage with him!.

I'm not going to pretend he was perfect!. I'm certainly no expert at guitars, but I know and admit he was not the most technically profficient guitarist of all time (not saying he was bad, though!.!.!. at all)!. However, I think he makes up for this in several ways!. Like you said, he was a great producer and could write some pretty amazing riffs!. But those things aside, the reason he is my favorite guitarist is not necessarily his skill but the way he makes me feel!.!.!. it's all the feeling and emotion in the blues mixed with even more power and mystery, and I can't get enough of it!. You can play cleaner than Jimmy Page and still not sound as good to me because of what he puts into the music, and I think this is even more noticeable live!. So although he didn't play everything perfectly, that was never the point!.!.!. he had a passion I can hear and relate to (which you can't always get with perfection), and that is what I love about his playing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I think he is Overrated and that's all I really have to say I am not in a fun mood really more serious right now so there will be no Jimmy Page bashing tonight from me!.
I think he is over glorified in the mainstream and by obsessed classic rock fans that get overly defensive of him when there are negative opinions stated about him!.

I think he's a damn good guitarist!. Not the best, but definitely in the top 5!. I mean, how can anyone listen to Led Zeppelin and tell me he's not a great guitarist!? I personally think Since I've Been Loving You, Dazed and Confused, Heartbreaker, and You Shook Me (Live) are some of his best pieces of work!. And of course we can't forget Stairway to Heaven!.

and sincerity of play from within are I guess why
he's my fave of performers, though inexplicably
I remain stubborn in claiming the Stones as
my "favorite band"!.
Thing about Page is that he somehow knew
when to allow the "slop" of which he's known
for!.!.!.and when to mix up his whole "light and shade"
contrasts, weaving little bits of soft pieces say
from Burt Bacharach or Aretha in with some
crunch say like Dazed, or In My Time Of Dying!.!.!.

well i had Jimmy Page proppedd up really high on my all time guitarists list until i started bragging about his achievements to someone how had a huge guitar history intellect and he pretty much schooled me on how he was an amazing studio artist but yet him in a live setting was one of the sloppiest guitar players!.!.!. but i still gotta hand it to the guy, even though i wasnt around when zep was runnin strong, he's still in my top 5 best guitarists of all timeWww@Enter-QA@Com
I like him as a guitarist!. I would never say that he is !.!. how do I say this, uhm !.!.!. recognizable!. As for an example, when you hear Carlos Santana or Hendrix playing a riff, you automatically know it's them!. I don't know if I can say that for Page!.

OVER RATED Love him to death but still "Whole Lotta Love" has about as much depth as a low tide of a shrimp's puddle!.But I love the guy!. I guess because he is an excellent Model!.!.and influence!.!.!.sorry but that is my thoughts of Jimmy Page as a guitarist!. There were many great guitarists that were never given light in that era!. that maybe why my bias But even the guys I play with guitarist, bassists, drummers all agree with me!. Echoing what some have already said- among long time guitar players, it's common knowledge he's a fairly sloppy player!. Page's real strength, though is his *creativity*!. THAT'S where he excelled over many of his peers!. I mean, like Zepp or not, you have to've been living under a ROCK to Not have heard the main riffs from "Black Dog", "Kashmir" & or course, "Stairway" itself!. The man helped write some of The Most memorable & durable rock songs ever made!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

He's one of the best!.!.!.Pages solos are one of my all time favorite,and some people think that "Stairway To Heaven" solo is the best solo ever!.I'm a huge fan of Led Zeppelin and I just admire Jimmy Page!.
