Although bassists are usually just there as part as the rhythm (along with the drums) they can be much more than that, they have the ability to be a lot more creative that most pieces of music allow them to be!. Mark King the lead singer and bassist of level 42, in my opinion the best Bassist of all time was a former drummer, and he used that to his advantage, playing the bass, in affect like the drums

In Level 42 and his other projects, the bass is the lead instrument instead of the lead guitar
So even though it seems that bassist may not do much, with enough hard work, if they want to, they can be truly fantastic!.

not necessarily!. there are some amazing bassists, such as Les Claypool of Primus or Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers!. most bands can sound pretty crappy without a bassist to keep the groove going!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
