Who is the better vocalist in your opinion!? They both have good qualities about them, and they're very unique in their own way!. Chris has a wide range, and can wail like a wildcat!. Layne Staley had the best doom/grunge voice ever!. I'm also biased though, I'm more of an AiC fan than a Soundgarden fan!. Layne has an unparalleled voice, and I have yet to hear someone sing just like he did!. When Layne sang, I believed everything that was coming out of his mouth!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Layne Staley has just a better rock voice,more harsher and aggressive but can also do mellow stuff just as good!.More emotion in his voice and can sing perfectly over heavy, darker or acoustic stuff!. also, Layne Staley was messed up and was not afraid to bring his darker lifestyle into Alice In Chains' lyrics!. Cornell is over-rated and sounds like millions of other singers that poured out of Seattle back in the day!. Just another wannabe Rockstar!. Audioslave anyone!?!?Www@Enter-QA@Com
Chris probably has the higher vocal range and the less raspy voice but Staley was better all around, especially when combined with guitarist Jerry Cantrell, so Staltrell has an amazing voice and that's my favorite

I don't like the way Chris Cornell sings!. Kind of stale and overproduced sound to his voice!. Predictable and lacking emotion!. If I'm going to listen to that kind of Seattle grunge I'll take Eddie Vedder!.

man did you pick a question for the ages!. both incredible vocalists, legends of their time and now!. really i would have to give this to chris cornell, despite the fact i am a staley fan!. Songs like "Junkhead" and "Angry Chair" make Layne have that edgy, dark, and even creepy sort style when he sings!. I love his raspy voice, and how he uses vibrato once and a while!.

I like both for different reasons!. Layne conveys a lot of emotion when he sings, and with a kind of haunting sound!. Chris sings with conviction and like you said has a wide range!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
