I've been thinking about this recently, and I completely agree with you!.
Beats are the most important thing to me in a song!. Music is about beats, even for hip-hop, I'm more of a production head and I keep my ear open for instruments in songs rather than what the person's saying!.

Yeah, I came to this conclusion after answering many "what is most important in music!?" questions!.
Basically, it doesn't matter how inspiring or lyrical the song is, if the beat sounds terrible, I'm not gonna listen to it!.
If all one cares about is lyrical content, then my advice is to read some f***ing poetry because not every hip-hop song has superb lyrical content!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

kinda buy, it can go both ways!. if a song has a good beat but the lyrics are just not there in my eyes it brings the whole song down!. but if the lyrics are there and the beat is wack then once again it brings the whole song down!. i think there needs to be a middle ground, where the beat accents the lyrics and vise versa!.
but there are songs that i like that have really great lyrics but the beat is so so and theres songs i like with so so lyrics and great beats!.

honestly today you are correct!. Subject means nothing because so many can't seem to speak in a way where you can understand what they say!. Couple that with the i-Tunes era of singles sales and no truly good music is being made nothing on the level of the Beatles, Rush Springsteen, Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie, Eminem where every song is a must listen and a message is sent!. Let alone a message that is the sum of it's parts (like a Pink Floyd Album)!.
