Answers:
That would depend on what you're listening to and how you see the transition to newer material!. Let's get one thing straight!. Classic Rock - to me that is referring to the bands who founded the Rock phenomenon!. The Beatles are the ultimate inspiration band and then comes Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple 'Stones etc!. Those bands and the generation they influenced, ie!. Pink Floyd in the UK, Alice Cooper, and his contemporaries in the US all constitute Classic Rock, to me anyway!.
I'm 34 and grown up listening to Iron Maiden, Metallica and a few of the heavier thrash bands that, looking back was a vinyl war with friends to find the heaviest sound!. (I won since I found Slayers Reign In Blood first lol) Now I'm that bit older, I've grown away from the screams and death growls that seem to have taken over the whole genre!. The good news is, there are still some good bands doing it the old way!.

Maiden and Metallica are still producing the goods ('tallica almost lost it for 18 years but now they're back)!. I still listen to a lot of "oldies", I love Bowie's Ziggy Stardust era, The Who, Queen, Deep Purple and those bands!. I love what fraction of Bob Dylan's expansive discography I'm lucky enough to have!.

Today's Pop, the chart scene (or what radios broadcast to the masses) can be split 3 ways (my beliefs only)!. We have Rap, Hip Hop and everything that has evolved into!. We have the Pop Idol and Boy/Girl band Smash Hits poster bands/singers and then some guitar bands!. I will concentrate on the guitar (probably would have been called indie back in late '80's) bands!. The Kaiser Chiefs have just released their 3rd album!. Their first Album, Employment is probably their best though!. There are some good raw sounds that on there that their following work seems to lack!. The Fratellis have two good albums out, they have a very quick tempo signature tone which is fun and varied!. US band Orson brought out a good album in Bright Idea (not sure where it falls in their discography) The Feeling are a good British band (a bit more mature than most around today) and they have two very good albums out!. I'm looking through my HDD as I'm writing this but keep seen acts like Tom Petty, Joe Wash, The Velvet Underground, Carlos Santana and The Eagles!.
To move away from the "Pop scene"!. Out of desperation of the lack of quality modern bands and the screamo metal scene, I started looking for female fronted metal bands!. Surely these angelic voiced beings would be a better starting point!. There is a slight crossover between Symphonic and Gothic here it would seem!. Really good bands like Delain and After Forever are well worth a listen!. Spanish growlers Sirenia have come back to their senses with the incredible Nine Destines And A Downfall album (I've plugged that in here a few times)!. I am eagerly anticipating their new album early next year!.
As for male vocals!. In literally the last couple of weeks I found a Finnish band that do catchy but mature Rock!. They are called Land Of Tales and they have just released their first (eponymous) album!. Thunderstone are another Finnish band (There's a hugh metal scene in Finland at the moment), they have a good sound without resorting to the nasty shouting and growling!.
I don't want to "bog" you down with too many names or genres for now!. There are a lot out there and I've tried to respond as close to your question as I could without knowing much about your personal tastes!. I could send you a complete A-Z of my HDD if you wanted but it's far too much to paste here!. Email me using my Y!A link if you need anymore information or re-post your message specifying a little more of what you're been listening to if I've gone off track!.

There are alot of great band out there!. Maybe get into a little bit of indie/alternative rock such as MGMT, Muse, the Strokes, Foals, Smiths, Modest Mouse, Mystery Jets, The Verve, Artic Monkeys to list a few!. Or if quick-pased shredding suits your facing, try a little bit of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Dream Theatre, Racer X!. Personally however, I prefer listening to blues!. There are great modern blues players out there like John Mayer (He combines pop tunes with bluesy feels), Joe Bonamassa, Back Door Slam or my all time favourite player, Stevie Ray Vaughan!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
