MOVEMENT!? At times YES, Absolutely!. Just look at how the Hip Hop community is mobilizing voters for the upcoming election, A lot of rappers have made substantial contributions to Barack Obama's Political Campaign!.!. Is Hip Hop still a culture!?!.!.!. I'm perplexed!.!.!. The factors that have contributed to my bewilderment are: Corporate Americas influence, Corporate Greed, Peoples need for instant gratification, and finally the people that love this culture playing a significantly smaller role than ever before!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

A culture, yes!. But still a movement!?

Sadly, no!.

It's now a big business!.

It's all about marketing!.!.!. no talent necessary!.

Not sure exactly when it stopped!.!.!. it was more of a gradual thing!.!.!. but the main factor involved where when rappers started making money big time!.

Then the money-making became more important than the quality of the music itself, and hip hop culture as it was started to fizzle out!.

Hopefully it will make a comeback!. There are a few in the game who still do it right!. Always stay positive!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well here's where I think it can honestly said that in the Underground Yes it is!. The only culture and movement in the Mainstream is to accumulate masses of Money to be able to buy what you desire where in the Underground it is about your desires as an artist to perfect your chosen element/s of the Culture!. This is where they truly respect what Hip Hop is/was and where it was headed not how they can change it to suit their own depraved ideals!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ninja was dead on with the movement part!. Allow me to elaborate further with the culture aspect!.

Although hip hop has become one of the most successful businesses, the culture is still very much alive!. Over the last few weeks I've met people that still breathe and live hip hop!.!.!.it's impossible to walk in my city without seeing one of several b-boys doing their thing because it's what they love doing, or without seeing teenagers who still aspire to become emcees!. I myself am still carrying on the hip hop culture!. While the overly baggy pants just aren't practical anymore, I still rock my hip hop tee's that I've bought at my favorite concerts!. One of my friends has recently begun purchasing vinyls - taking his dj'ing abilities to a much higher, much more respectable level!.

The graff is still there, too!. Graff is possibly the most famous tool of teenagers living in low-income communities!.!.!.at least, it was where I grew up!.

Conclusion: those that grew up while hip hop was just born have turned it into a business!. those that have recently grown up are keeping the artistic aspects of it alive!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

t's still a culture because hip hop is something unlike everything else!.!.!. In hip hop we have our own style of dress, we have our own manners, we have our own everything!.!.!. Just everything about hip hop is different!.

Is it still a movement!.!.!. Ehhh!.!.!. Yes and no!. I feel like a long time ago hip hop was so united!. Everyone was kind of trying to reach one goal!. Now that isn't the case!. People just don't like what hip hop represents now!. You can't have a movement if you have people hating certain aspects of it!. No shaky ground allowed in a movement!. But then again!.!.!. Hip hop will unite when the time calls!. Like Ninja mentioned above!.!.!. Take the election for instance!. Hip hop will unite for that one!.

EDIT: Hi Bonnie!.!.!. =D I've been busy!. But now things have simmered down so I can pop up once in a while!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It is still a culture, but i don't know about a movement!. It just seems that hip hop doesn't play as big of a role as it should in america, and people don't recognize it as a culture, but just as a music genre!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It never really was!. Hip Hop etc was simply another record industry invention that drew from many African American influences!.

Like many things, it was and is a cynical commercial venture that has fortunately benefitted many struggling young artists!.

There is still a big scene out there, thanks to the faithfull!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
