Nothing happened to punk, however, 'mainstream society' started labeling a bunch of the new over produced screaming rubbish as 'punk' and some people take offense to this!. The true genre is still the same, and you can find some decent newer stuff if you dig deep enough, its just hard to sift through the overwhelming majority of pure crap which is modern music in order to find it!.
I personally have such disdain for the majority of people I've encountered in the recent past, that I find myself easily understanding why the music of this current generation is so vile and utterly horrid!. It reflects the current American culture as a whole!.!.!. computer enhanced, under talented, lacking creativity and inevitably consuming the same sh*t sandwich and asking for seconds!. F*ck everyone!.
