Pelican's City Of Echoes definitely!. It is a fantastic piece of emotional, technical stuff!. also, John 5's Requiem is pretty good!. He is a master guitar shredder who can play super fast, and string it together so it's not just random plucking, but actual songs!. Buckethead's Monsters And Robots has some voices, but only one song has actual singing!. Buckethead is!.!.!. odd!. To say the least!. But, if you like him, you'll love him!. His music is very weird, very inventive, and very technical!. So, in conclusion!.!.!.

Pelican- City Of Echoes (Must-have)
John 5- Requiem (Great shredding)
Buckethead- Monsters And Robots (definitely buy, just to try it)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Those are a pretty hard find, but a couple of artists DO have some really rockin' instrumentals for instance:

Joe Satriani - Surfing with The Alien (Title track)
http://www!.youtube!.com/watch!?v=e-OK7sS85!.!.!.
Rarely does Joe ever have a song that has vocals!. Other songs to check out from Joe Satriani!.!.!.Summer Song and one called Friends, they got a lot of airplay when they were released!. Here's Joe's OFFICIAL website where you can learn more and check out the discoghraphy

Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover (It's live and he does a little improv at the beginning but hang in there, it REALLY gets jammin'!.)
http://www!.youtube!.com/watch!?v=2Sh1P0ear!.!.!.
Like Satriani, Eric's stuff is almost always without vocals!.
Here's Eric's OFFiCIAL website where you can get a better idea of his stuff if you're interested!.

As mentioned above Steve Vai is another great instrumental guitarist!. Intresting note here!.!.!.Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Steve Vai team up occasionally and form a group known as "G-3" It's REALLY kick-a$$!. The three of them take the stage together and help play each others songs!.
Here's G-3 doing a Satriani song!. It's the title track from the album Flying In A Blue Dream

Steve Vai is not metal, but I enjoy him!. I did a search on the net and came up with some Swedish band Dinalchemy!. Sounded like techno with a metal guitar wailing on the track I sampled, don't know if all their music sounds the same, but there's my 2 cents worth!. I enjoy some classic Ted Nugent on occasion!. Not instrumental, but has long kick *** solos! ie StrangleholdWww@Enter-QA@Com

Right now I'm listening to the bonus CD that came with my copy of Samael's Passage!. It's Xy's solo project (he's Samael's drummer, programmer, keyboardist, composer and all around nerd), classical versions of the songs from the album!. They basically sound like super-awesome Piano sonatas with a synthed string orchestra!.
