Do any of you actually know what Hip Hop is?!

Question: Do any of you actually know what Hip Hop is!?
And I'm asking this without trying to insult anyone but some of you seem a bit confused!. No one refers to Hip Hop artists as MCs they just call them rappers and likewise they never call Hip Hop Hip Hop they just call it Rap (especially the haters)!. So whoever can give me the most accurate discreption of Hip Hop will earn themselves 10 points, and please do talk about the elements!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

ALWAYS HAVE SUMTHIN MEANINGFUL 2 SAY DONT U!? When sum1 raps they are rhymin, when sum1 MCs they r Movin da Crowd cuz they r da Master of Ceremonies, 4 that reason not many true MCs exist 2 this day!. They wud rather rap than MC!. Da elements u talk about r MCing, DJing, Graffiti, and Breakdancing(or B Boying)!. But nowadays sum of these basic elements have disappeared and new ones have emerged such as Fashion and Slang!. And I think its been bad 4 Hip Hop cuz it gives people da wrong idea of its essence and "rappers" focus more on slang(or wut they sayin) as opposed to substance(wut's being said)!. Hip Hop was born in the Bronx and ever since it has flourished in da south da whole genre has become a laughingstock, many people hate it cuz they look at it as being inferior and lacking any real message!.!.!. People need to understand that New York is Hip Hop's mecca and boasts da majority of da powerhouse MCs!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Does one always call janitors "maintenance workers" or "custodians"!? Does one always call weather-men "meteorologists" or "weather forecasters"!? Most likely not!. See my point!? "Rappers" and "MCs" are technically the same thing!. One doesn't always have to be politically correct!.

I ALWAYS refer to hip-hop as "hip-hop", never as "rap"!.

Hip-hop is a cultural movement started in the early 1970's consisting of rapping, DJing, graffiti, breakdancing, fashion and slang!.

There's a basic definition of "hip-hop"!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

"hip-hop is more than music!.!. hip-hop has crossed cultural boundaries that other music genres has never crossed!.!. hip-hop is not only the music you listen to, but the way you walk, talk, dress and act!.!. hip-hop is a state of mind, an entire generation!.!."

I always have to explain this to people as well, because I'll be asked what music I like and I say "rap, but not hip-hop" and they don't understand that it's not the same!. This problem is compounded by the fact that news and other forms of media use the terms rap and hip-hop interchangeably!.

To me, hip-hop is more intellectual!. I won't say that it's "smarter" rap, but I will admit that many hip-hop artists can come across as being smarter than your average rapper (mind you I think rappers have some of the broadest vocabularies of anyone)!. Hip-hop often strives to send a positive or influential message, and tends to shy away from derogatory and curse words!.

Hip-hop artists have some nice beats but seem more likely than rappers to utilize more standard instrumentals, as opposed to rap music's heavy utilization of synthesizers and layer upon layer of various sounds (which in my opinion makes rap some of the most tantalizing sounds to my ears, as opposed to worthless sh!t rap like Soulja Boy and his single-tune songs)!.

Rap is all about acting!. I'm sure many rappers have slanged crack in their day, but I'm also certain that a large number of them who claim to have done so have actually not!. Swearing is usually a big part of it, but I believe it's more due to swear words conveying anger much better than traditional words, and I've heard plenty of rap that sounded great even without swearing (anyone notice that B-Legit doesn't swear at all in the title track off his '96 album Hemp Museum!?)!.

And I'll be the first to admit that because I am not much a fan of hip-hop I do not know a lot about it!. Rap, on the other hand, I've been listening to forever!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
