there are a number of reasons why your getting that airy sound and no tone!.!. if you were chest singing and straining the voice you very well may have done some damage!. another reason could be that you lack proper breath support!. ironically you may not be getting enough air because you are filling your chest!. try to keep one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest, sip the air as if you are sipping water through a straw and let the air go deep to the diaphragm (between rib and stomach) do a few breath exercises, a helpful one is pulsing shh shh shh shh and then a long shhhhh!. while doing this you will find that your hand on your stomach moves in slightly and your abdominal muscles contract!. what you do not want is to have your entire ribcage collapse!.!. if this happens you will feel out of breath very quickly!.

now that you have done a few breath exercises make the vocal connection on your air!. stand with good posture and an open chest (not slouched) raise your eyebrows, drop your jaw so there is a nice open space for the sound to resonate, and sing the scale (do, re, mi!.!.!.) rather than singing the words do re mi and so on keep the mouth open and replace the words with "ahhh"!. singing takes patience, practice, and years to master the art!. since you are singing in a church choir you want your voice to blend so the choir sounds like one voice!. in this case airy isnt so bad!. you do not want to be using your chest voice, unless its gospel!. remember it is always better to sing a song you can comfortably sing in your range than to strain the voice just to be flashy!. the voice is a very special gift you do not want to lose!.i really hope this helps good luck!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

well i know that sometimes eating something before sing can make people unable to hit certain notes in a song and makes them sound "airy"!. So you could try not eating before singing and see if it helps!. thick drinks can also make your voice sound of so the only thing you really should eat or drink is water!. Hope that helps, good luck!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
