Foot pedals used in live shows?!

Question: Foot pedals used in live shows!?
I've seen several artists use foot pedals in their music when they're preforming live shows!. But I have no idea what they're called or where I could get a set!. If you're confused on what I'm talking about, here are 2 video's from artists who use them:

Howie Day:

KT Tunstall:

Thanks in advance!

Usually foot pedals tend to be something on the order of channel switchers for their amps (from clean or distorted or back again), distortion boxes for rhythm or solos, either single effects (chorus, phaser, etc) or multifx (Line 6, Boss, etc) that can do many things at once, volume/mute (for when they're swapping out guitars, and so on!.

Both videos show the artist tapping a volume or mute pedal!. They both also hit a delay pedal, it seems!. Howie is either using a multifx pedal or has a tech off-stage doing something, because he has some processed sounds coming out of his guitar!.

KT is using a looping pedal, a pedal that records some sounds and loops them back repeatedly!. She's recording the basic guitar rhythm, then the tambourine thingy part over it, in the beginning!. Her stomping on the pedal all those times is how she controls what parts get recorded and looped, and what doesn't!.

Guitar Center would be one place to go and ask questions, but a real music store would probably be better - you might actually find someone who knows something!.

This stuff isn't cheap - a decent looping pedal is a 300 something dollars, and even a cheaper volume pedal is going to be a good 40-80 dollars!. If you want to do stuff like these guys you need what's called tap tempo - did you see how KT was stepping on something four or five times in a row at the very beginning!? She was hitting the tap tempo button to establish the song's tempo (bpm)!. When you want to layer delays like that (or Edge from U2, for instance) you have to be spot on with your tempo, both your playing and what tempo your delay is at!.

So, to sum - there are bunches of different pedals, many different uses, and each have different qualities and sounds!. They aren't all that cheap, and you should always play before you buy, return policy or no!.

Good luck!

many bands,if not all rock bands, use effects pedals or"foot pedals" they just change the tone of the guitar through the amp, instead of actually at the guitar!. There are many different effects!. google "danelectro effects pedals",and check them out!. you will probably want some pedals, they are very cool and really broaden your musicWww@Enter-QA@Com
