There are exceptions like the solo at the end of Comfortably Numb or some of Zappa's live solos but for the most part I find the guitar solo to be nothing more than an exercise in ego stroking and anti-musicallity!. Bands like that AWFUL Dragonfarce and Malmsteen are the worst offenders of what I call "twiddly w@nk"

i agree with you to some degree!.!.!.i think that basically all power metal solos are totally uninspired and written with the intent of showing how many notes someone can play in a short period of time!.!.!.it's ridiculous and that's a major part of the reason why i find it so tough to listen to that type of musicWww@Enter-QA@Com

Malmsteen is a god amongst guitarists, and if you don't believe me slow down the solo and it plays nicely at any tempo
other examples include Jimi Page solos, Jimi Hendrix solos and Slash solos!.

A lot are like that!. I heard a Slipknot (who I am no fan of) guitar solo and I thought that would be cool if I could play that fast, but it didn't really sound cool, it was just fast!. There are a lot of fast guitar solos that are cool, but people forget to put actual musical content to their solos a lot of the time!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
