The same reason almost all music made by black people is generally labeled "Hip Hop / R&B"!.

It's an easy way to sort things for lazy corporate stores who don't actually know anything about music and can't be bothered to label things properly!. Most indie stores label things better!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's kind of a catch-all (which is really the key term in this debate all the time)!. People didn't use to get so nuts about the way things are put together, and where you can place say rap, jazz, classical and what have you in their places pretty quickly, rock and pop can be pretty subjective as to what is in and what is out, etc!. They just keep it really broad!. also, these genres intertwine a lot and create debates about what goes where!. Combining the two takes the argument out of it and makes it really general!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The real reason lies within the deep recesses of Yahoo Answers itself!. My inside contacts tell me that their staff has a running bet as to how many different times this question can keep reappearing on a weekly basis!. also, you must not have been to too many record stores because I often have seen Rock & Pop grouped together there as well!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The founding bands of Rock, such as the Beatles, are considered Pop by many people!. I guess the folks at Y!A just assumed that grouping the two genres would makes sense, due to that!.

It doesn't really bother me!. I mean, a kiddie section would be nice!. But Rock and Pop work okay together!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

its fuckin frustrating, good ROCK songs are ruined by shitty POP songs, take the "jonas brothers" for example, they fuckin disgrace rock so fuckin muchWww@Enter-QA@Com

Because back in the 60s, rock and pop often were the same thing!. The Kinks referred to their music as pop because it was popular!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I guess because some pop songs sound rockish and some rock songs sound popish!? Who knows!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

it's retardedWww@Enter-QA@Com

they are NOT the same thing!.!.its stupidWww@Enter-QA@Com
