Answers:
Radiohead

I think in terms of completing the timeline, as well as defining (to a certain level - in popularity and in terms of artistic output and critical acclaim) a time in rock music, they might come the closest!.

They broke out of the mold of what alternative rock was supposed to be as defined by Nirvana all those years before, as Nirvana was a response to hair metal, which moved away from classic rock, which was born out of the Beatles work, which started out in the same vein of boy-band pop/rock that Elvis defined and popularized, which was the creation of the teenage music fan in general!. also, all of the bands listed had initial releases, (with the exception of Zep) that were pretty pedestrian (although not necessarily lacking in talent and greatness)!.

Although there were other bands that also broke out of that alt-rock mold, Radiohead, as they became more abstract, sold more albums with each subsequent release!. In Rainbows being the album to break that pattern (although since it was first sold as a direct download online - it is much more difficult to gauge how many units were actually moved)!.

Plus, and this has yet to truly be seen, their release of "In Rainbows" has the possibility of completely revolutionizing the music industry because of the attention they brought to their marketing strategy (which in all fairness had been done before they did it)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I would say System of a Down!

They took rock and made it their own - and they did it with gusto!. And they look like they are enjoying it, which is more than I can say about the sorry bunch of puny vapid dorks who currently consider themselves to be rock stars!.

SOAD all the way!
