Aww! LUCKY! I know someone (myself included) who would DIE for a violin!. (well, I wouldn't die for one!.!.!.!. I'd die for a lute!)
I'm sorry I can't help you, but maybe you could listen to Emilie Autumn's works!? She's amazing and a huge inspiration!. She plays the violin (and many other instruments), it might inspire you!.

Well congrats on getting a violin! I would say the first thing to do is to get the basics down for reading music!. Learning some basic scales would be the first step!. Get a beginners book, it will usually have all of that in there plus the fingerings (and probably an explanation of the fingering patterns)!. Really once you have a couple of scales down and you're comfortable with the notes and reading music, you will find it easier and more enjoyable to learn new songs!. also, if you can find someone who plays the violin or a teacher to put tape on your violin for the fingering it will be a lot easier for you to know when you are hitting the right note rather than playing it by ear!. So definitely get a book and one that at least has a decent lesson on how to read music because that's probably the most important thing!. also it will usually have some tips on how to care for you violin (like make sure your bow isn't too tight and use rosin, how to tune your violin, etc)!. Getting a private tutor or joining the orchestra will really help!.The violin is so much fun, you'll have a blast--good luck!! :DWww@Enter-QA@Com
The number one thing you need to do first is find a good private teacher!.
