You are referring to the 'Mozart Effect'!. There's been loads of back-and-forth for years over that one, and I'm not up any more on the debate, which often was not overly professional-sounding!.

Sorry!. All I can venture is that the effective music -largely Mozart's- was often claimed to be close in tempo to that of a placid, steady heart-beat!.!.!. Go figure!. It sounds both simple enough and loony enough to be at least partly true!. I think it has been tried with children most extensively!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

You need to be far more specific!. I have been a full-time professional classical musician and certified teacher since 1971, and CANNOT concentrate on anything at all if there is music playing - not correcting papers, balancing a checkbook, etc!. I can only listen to music when doing something mindless, like folding laundry!. Otherwise, I am far too involved in the listening process - the analytical part of my music theorist's brain refuses to kick back and enjoy!. If I am just relaxing, and the music is simple mindless stuff, most musicals ( not Sondheim - I am INT0 listening then!) , some quiet jazz - then I can just partake!.

People has asked about what music is good to READ to, do homework, etc!. This incenses me! Oh, sure, just pop in a CD one of those Mahler-guy symphony thingees, and shut down half of your brain while you read The Hobbit! I cannot fathom why someone would bastardize classical or other fine genres of music this way!.

Now - if you are talking about dedicated listening putting you in a focused and relaxed state to THEN take up an intricate task - OK!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, yes and no!. Here's a Wikipedia article, it's referred to as the "Mozart Effect":

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Mozart_Effe!.!.!.

There was a research project sometime ago - unable to recall it's title - which demonstrated that plants thrive if Mozart's music is played for them: no joke!!!

personally, i prefer the floyd!.!.!. headphones on, head down writing!.!.!. silence isnt golden, without my phones, im sat between the hardrive unit, with 4 fans and NO covers, a fridge and a freezer!.!.!. late at night i swear i can hear freeform jazz, and i hate freeform jazz!.!.!. damn those atmospheric harmonics!.!.!. it weird!.!. and no i dont have any fillings!.!.!. and its not radio moscow!.!.!. more like radio free albania!.!.!.!. Apparently people who listen to classical music have been found to have similar traits to those who listen to heavy metal!. Which is nice to know!. :-)Www@Enter-QA@Com

That whole classical music thing does not work for me because I guess I get caught up in the song and all that goes into, so I forget what I'm supposed to be doing!. :) lolWww@Enter-QA@Com
