Question: Who were the great forefathers of hard Rock/Heavy metal, etc!?
All of these bands can lay claim to inventing the genre!. I've put them in no particular order!. Who do you think was the REAL first hard rock band!? Have I forgotten anyone!? Yes, Metalheads!.!.!. they aren't metals bands, but if it wasn't for these folks, you would not exist!.

In my opinion, no one can create a genre!. Instead, music (as well as any kind of arts) feeds off inspiration from their predecessors to incorporate into their style!. All of those bands mentioned probably got their style from the jazz musicians of their time as well as feeding off the music around them at the time!.
If you want an answer, all of the artists in the 60's are responsible for rock as you can't narrow it down to one artist!.
Example!. If you said the first real rock band was The Who, does that mean that if The Who didn't exist there would be no rock!? Of course not!. Every one in the era was responsible for it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I would not consider Cream or The Who as being "hard" and I personally do not feel that they deserve any credit for inventing hard rock or heavy metal!. That's just my opinion!. I would go with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and AC/DC!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think most people consider Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple to be the first real heavy metal bands!.
But they were all influenced by someone right!?
