What bands/musicians did you grow up listening to?!

Question: What bands/musicians did you grow up listening to!?
And do you still listen to them today!?
My mom told me that when I was 2, I loved The Beach Boys, lol!. She says I'd dance and bounce up & down to "surfin' Safari", and when she'd stop playing the record, I'd cry uncontrollably until she put it back on! lol!
When I was 12-13, I liked Poison, Motley Crue, Warrant, and (ugh!.!.I ashamed to say "NKOTB"!.!.LOL
Then I got into my older brothers' "stash"!.!.!. Bob Dylan, Eric Burden & The Animals, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, Kris Kristopherson, & Johnny Cash!.
Needlesstosay, I never listened to any more "New Kids" after that!
Send me a link of one of your favorite songs from your youth!
Here's one from me to you: :)

My mother and father exposed me to some great stuff!. also the Beach Boys for me, as well as James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, a lot of Motown (lots and lots), the Animals, Carly Simon!.!.!.these were more of stuff my Mom exposed me to!. My father on the other hand was more into oldies and country like Buddy holly, Jerry lee lewis, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, loretta Lynn, Dolly, Hank Williams, George Straight, Tammy Wynette (<-my first concert)!.
I'm the youngest of my siblings and therefor I also got lots of exposure to things like Led Zeppelin, Pink floyd, the Doors, etc!.
And my childhood era of Prince, Madonna, U2, Van Halen, Chaka Khan, Footlose and dirty dancing soundtracks, etc!.
I first heard the Grateful Dead in 5th grade and was hooked!. So needless to say I still listen to all of these types of music as well as more modern Rock!. I feel luck to have had the early music influences I had!. Much of it was due to not having a TV for the first 6 years of my life and then when we did get one, we couldn't watch it but 1hour aday so the radio/record player was on all the time while growing up!.
*edit* I use to go nuts for this song, so much so that the record would skip:http://www!.youtube!.com/watch!?v=41WTVAb6p!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's good having older siblings, isn't it!? :-)

British Invasion in the '60s shaped a lot of my musical psyche from the tender age of 7!.!.!. Moody Blues figure prominently ~ thanks to my older sister, Sadge!.!.!. There weren't so many choices back then, and the radio played *everything* ~ all on one station: KIMN in Denver, a Top 40 AM radio station :-)

When FM came into being, album rock became much more important, and all what is now called "classic rock" was what we heard: Led Zeppelin, Yes, Stevie Wonder ~ so much great music!.!.!.

A favorite song from my youth ~ This Diamond Ring by Gary Lewis and the Playboys

I grew up on the Beach Boys too! 'Surfin Safari" was my favorite songs also!. Help Me Rhonda was another one!. Were we separated at birth!? LOL My mom had the Endless Summer album!. I played that thing to death!. I also listened to Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Cher (I distinctly remember Gypsys Tramps & Thieves) and a ton of Elvis - that was my mom's favorite!. I love my 80's Metal, but still listen to 60's & 70's a ton!. I got my first Kiss album when I was 7!. I feel pretty lucky to like so many different kinds of music!.
Here is a link to one of my favorite songs when I was little!. I used to dance on top of my dads feet to this song!. I still love this song!.

When I was a kid I LOVED Arlo Guthrie, I would sing "going for a ride in the car car" all the time!. Elvis was another love of mine to this day "In The Ghetto" brings tears to my eyes!. "The Night Chicago Died" by paper lace was my absolute favorite song for a good long time!. Disco was on the radio, but my dad loved psychedelic rock, like Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Dead!. My mom liked Motown, so there was also Gladys Night, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops!. As a tween , I listened to top 40 radio for a while, with favorites like Joan Jett & the Black-hearts, The Cars, Duran Duran was my guilty pleasure boy band (They still are to some extent) Teenage years brought me to "alternative" college radio with favorites like the Pixies, The Cure, Jesus & Mary Chain, which led me to Punk then Hardcore, like Subhumans, Sex Pistols,Misfits, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Rollins band, Slap-shot, etc!. My brother was a metal head, where I went the punky alternative route!. Now I love music, almost any genre!.

When I was a little older it was Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Grateful Dead, Steve Miller Band, Meatloaf, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd & Neil Young!.

Then it was Def Leppard, Dio, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, The Police, GunsNRoses, Stevie Ray Vaughan!.

I still listen to AC/DC, SRV, GNR and Johnny Cash

My parents raised me on classics!.!.!. Dylan, Bob Marley, The Mamas & The Papas, Grateful Dead, Arlo Guthrie, Janis, Jimi, Simon & Garfunkel, etc!.!.!.

At about 10 there was early Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper!. I think my earliest crush on a pretty boy was Morten Haarket of Ah-hah (Take on Me) but taste in music had nothing to do with that!

High school we found Meatloaf, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, oldies even then!. Modern then was Guns N Roses!.

The funniest clash from my childhood to later years, was the day a friend came dashing in to share the latest, funniest thing he'd ever heard!. It was "My Ding-a-ling!." I said yeah, Chuck Berry is great and he said "What!? This is new!" Then he read the casette tape's label and went "Oh!."

I get a huge kick out of Kid Rock's "All Summer Long"!. I was seventeen, and far from in between, in 1989!. And his thoughts were short, his hair was long!. And we were trying different things!.!.!. everything except Michigan was true for me in that one! I can't go to Youtube, I'm at work, but that'd be my link now!. :-)

For oldies!.!.!. look up Jennifer Warnes singing Leonard Cohen songs (she did a whole album, Famous Blue Raincoat) or Arlo Guthie's Pickle Song!. :-)Www@Enter-QA@Com
