Answers:
What you're looking for is a nice sounding overdrive!. Your Fender amp (I presume it's a transistor type) should have an overdrive channel, try it out with just a little bit of drive, it should give a reasonable sound!.

If you're looking for additional equipment, there are lots of possibilities!. If you can afford a tube amplifier, it will work best!. If you can't (and it's quite understandable) you can try a general overdrive effect pedal or a specialized blues overdrive pedal (links in the sources)!. You can go for the classic Boss pedals or many other brands like Digitech, electro-harmonix etc!.

The specialized blues pedals have this screaming hi-pitch sound you can hear in rock'n'roll, J!.L!. Hooker or Albert King ie!. Stevie Ray Vaughn's sound is more mellow, so you should try what fits you best!.

Now for the guitar - everything should do the job, but there are some things you should consider - if you want a mellow, jazzy sound you should have humbucker pickups, if you want screaming sound single coil pickups are better!. You should use softer strings to bend easily (but i use standard ones and i'm fine)!. Many blues players used archtop guitars, they sound nice and they could go acoustic with them!.

You can get a blues sound out of the very basic equipment, so don't rush buying expensive stuff, but if you can, enjoy it!. And keep playing the Blues;)Www@Enter-QA@Com

To play the blues, you have to have the blues!.
